Do you need some help figuring out what setting the 350 is on an electric stove top? I’ll cover everything about this matter in this article.
In general, in most typical stovetops, there are no such things as 350 degrees’ Fahrenheit settings. Instead, you can see a dial with 1 to 9 numbers or 1 to 6 numbers. The 350 degrees Fahrenheit is considered medium heat, and you should turn the dial to the middle number (5 or 3).
“If your stovetop has a 1 to 9 numbered dial, 5 is the number for medium heat.
If your stovetop has a 1 to 6 numbered dial, 3 is the number for medium heat.”
Read the below article for more details.
What is the Meaning of 350 degrees Fahrenheit on an Electric Stove Top?
Now, you might look for 350 degrees Fahrenheit settings on your stovetop. But in truth, most stovetops don’t have such settings. So, you can stop the search now.
350 degrees Fahrenheit is the temperature of boiling oil. When cooking something with oil, you should heat the oil to at least 350 degrees. But where are the settings?

Well, on your stovetop, you can locate a dial with numbers. These dials could be numbered 1 to 9 or 1 to 6. The numbers represent the temperature. And 350 degrees Fahrenheit is considered medium heat. So, all you have to do is set the dial to its medium settings.
- If your stovetop has a 1 to 9 numbered dial, 5 is the number for medium heat.
- If your stovetop has a 1 to 6 numbered dial, 3 is the number for medium heat.
Quick Tip: 9 is the high heat setting for an electric stove top. Also, the high heat temperature is above 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
How to Confirm?

If you aren’t sure about these types of things, take some olive oil and heat it for 5 to 10 minutes in medium settings. As I mentioned above, set the dial to either 5 or 3.
Then, take check the temperature of the heated olive oil using a thermometer. The temperature will range from 350 degrees Fahrenheit to 420 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is the Use of 350 Degrees Fahrenheit Settings?
For all the food you plan to deep fry, you should use the 350 degrees Fahrenheit gas stove mark. This medium heat is the temperature that oil boils.

First, start heating the oil on 3 or 4 settings (assume you are using a 1-9 numbered dial). At 190 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil will start to smoke, known as the smoke point. When that happens, set the dial to its medium settings. Then, heat the oil for another 2 or 3 minutes.
Quick Tip: For deep-fried cooking, use olive oil or canola oil.
How Can I Heat Oil to 350 Without a Thermometer?
If you don’t have a thermometer, boiling oil to 350 degrees is a little tricky. That doesn’t mean it is impossible. Find some kernel popcorn and put it into the heated oil. Usually, popcorn will pop in between 325 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is excellent for frying.
Important: Even though the popcorn method seems nice, try to use a thermometer for an accurate reading.
